We launched our organization with our debut performance featuring a wide variety of Symphonic Brass repertoire performed by Vancouver's greatest up and coming brass musicians.

January 19 2020

VBC members were present all day to meet brass students from around greater Vancouver and answer brass ensemble related questions. We also gave away fantastique gift basket - full of gifts for every brass player in the event’s raffle.

Youth Competition
February 14 2020

Students in greater Vancouver were invited to compete perform with the Vancouver Brass Collective on our Spring Concert. Three winners were selected who received a VBC prize package and were able to rehearse with us before we went into lockdown for the pandemic.

Symphony in Brass
Cancelled due to COVID

This event was unfortunately postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic. It was meant to feature the grand ‘Symphony for Brass’ by Eric Ewazen, and youth competition winners Ella Buonassisi, Bryce Dong, and Finn Carlson joining VBC for Richard Strauss’ Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare.

Composed for VBC by by our very own Music Director, ‘Do the flowers know?’ was recorded from afar with each of us at home. It was the compiled and premiered online as our organization’s first digital work!

VSO Day of Music 2020
Cancelled due to COVID

The Vancouver Brass Collective was honoured by our invitation to perform at the Vancouver Symphony’s day long celebration of music in our city! Our performance was unfortunately indefinitely postponed due to the pandemic.

Reimagined/Renewed
October 25 2020

In fall of 2020, VBC met under strict safety regulations to rehearse and record digital content for on line release for our community. This was the first time our musicians met in person since early spring of 2020 when the pandemic caused a global lockdown.

December 23 2020

For the holiday season, members of VBC chamber music arrangements of various carols. Each musician’s part was recorded from the safety of their home and then our members compiled their recordings into an 11-part series released throughout the day.

February 27/28 2021

We hosted an online symposium for brass players and beyond to come together virtually and hosted discussions about freelancing, making a career in music, audition prep and tips, a talk on Women and BIPOC in brass with guest speakers from around greater Vancouver and North America.

VSO Day of Music 2021
May 15 2021

We were thrilled to be invited again to participate in the VSO’s annual ‘Day of Music’ festivities. This program featured classical orchestral works reimagined for modern symphonic brass ensemble.

VBC IS BACK
November 20 2021

The members of VBC reunited for our first concert for a live audience since our inaugural concert in December 2019. The program included smaller chamber works and large full ensemble works for brass by female composers.

Covid Could Not Stop Us.

Though the pandemic hit at a difficult time for our organization, our musicians were determined to keep making music together. At the following link, you can hear a recording made from our homes during quarantine, as well as recordings done at Shaughnessy Heights United Church with safety precautions in fall 2020.
